Carbery Group is recognised as a leading international manufacturer of speciality food ingredients, flavouring systems and as an award-winning cheese producer. We are owned by four Irish dairy co-operatives, employ almost 800 people, and manufacture from 10 facilities worldwide, including Ireland, UK, Italy, USA, Brazil and Thailand.
Our timeline, Carbery since 1965
Carbery was founded in 1965 as a joint venture between four creameries and Express Dairies, UK. Since then we have grown, taking market leading positions in dairy, ingredients and flavours. This timeline explores our journey of growth and significant milestones along the way.
Carbery Milk Products is formed - a partnership between Carbery Creameries (four West Cork dairy co-operatives) and Express Dairies, UK.
Construction of the West Cork facility nears completion
Milk delivery commences and over 1,400mt of cheese is produced during the first year of production
Carbery becomes one of the world’s first processors to install ultra-filtration technology to produce whey protein concentrates
An important year in the evolution of the company - It becomes 100% owned by the farmers of West Cork
Carbery, in conjunction with Ornua (formerly the Irish Dairy Board), launches Dubliner Irish cheese
Carbery makes their first acquisition in the flavour industry, acquiring Synergy Flavours, Twyford, UK.
Carbery acquires a flavour ingredients company in Wauconda, USA - the company's first US acquisition

We are committed to building our value growth propositions through discovery, research and innovation across our key strategic platforms of Nutrition, Dairy and Taste.
In our Nutrition business, we develop, produce and market an advanced range of whey proteins, tailored to meet the demands of our customers’ markets in infant, performance and clinical nutrition. We invest in pioneering research on the role of hydrolysed dairy proteins in improving muscle health, mobility, insulin sensitivity, appetite control and immune protection, enabling our customers to develop new foods which enrich lives.
Our West Cork (Ballineen) Dairy facility is one the largest single cheese producing plants in Ireland and the UK. With a capacity of over 200mt of natural cheese per day, we process all of the milk supplied by our local farmer shareholders. We produce more than twenty market-leading cheeses for retail, food manufacturing and food service customers throughout the world. We also provide a range of dried dairy products.
Our Flavours division, Synergy Flavours, is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of flavourings, natural extracts and essences. With extensive experience across food, beverage and nutrition, we develop high quality taste solutions which inspire innovation. We excel in capturing the freshest, most authentic flavours from nature, through proprietary extraction technologies, enabling our customers to deliver maximum flavour impact for tastier foods.
