Maximising the benefits of whey protein

We produce the highest quality whey protein hydrolysates, concentrates and isolates.

There are many benefits associated with the consumption of whey protein. At Carbery we continue to research to discover new innovations and benefits. We focus on maximising the nutritional and health benefits of whey across a wide range of applications including powdered supplements, ready to drink (RTD) beverages, gels, bars and tablets. Because our ingredients have excellent dispersion, solubility and sensory characteristics you can include them in a wide range of products.

Optipep, our innovative range for specialised nutritional applications includes hydrolysed whey protein isolates (90% protein) and hydrolysed whey protein concentrates (80% protein). Targeted hydrolysis enzymatically digests the native proteins into smaller fractions and peptides. These are rapidly digested and absorbed delivering essential protein nutrients for growth and maintenance of muscle mass. Learn more about Optipep® Infant and Optipep® Sports.

The Optipep production process

Isolac, our whey protein isolate range, for use in performance nutrition, infant formulae, dietetic products and clinical nutrition, are high in protein (90%), low in fat and lactose. We use cross flow micro-filtration technology, a natural process that removes fat and lactose while concentrating the valuable whey protein fractions. Read more about Isolac here.>

Carbelac, our high quality whey protein concentrates offer great versatility across a wide range of food and beverages due to its functional (texture and mouthfeel enhancement) and nutritional (higher protein) benefits. Through ultrafiltration, we target premium concentrates with 35-80% protein. Read more about Carbelac here.>

For 40 years we have been perfecting how to preserve and enhance this natural value of whey, today we offer customised whey proteins for infant nutrition, performance nutrition, health and wellness and clinical nutrition markets..

Clean label ingredients for fast growing health & wellness categories

Whey protein is a natural, high quality protein that comes from cow’s milk. It is a rich source of the essential amino acids needed by the body on a daily basis. In its purest form, it contains little to no fat, or lactose. Food labelling helps consumers make informed choices about the food they buy, recognise healthier products and drive enhanced product development. Dairy derived ingredients from a sustainable source, ensures clear and clean labelling as well as high quality nutrition.

The nutritional benefits of protein are well recognised

Proteins are the main building blocks of the human body and amino acids are the building block of proteins.9 of the 20 amino acids the body requires must be provided through the diet. These are called essential amino acids.Whey protein is rich in leucine, isoleucine and valine (BCAA) which play a pivotal role in muscle protein synthesis
In Europe, food and beverage manufacturers now have a framework for nutrition and health claims on products if they include specific nutrients or functional ingredients. If making a nutrition or health claim about a product you must comply with Regulation (EC) 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods. Whey protein contains a variety of nutrients, most notably, protein, calcium and magnesium. Whey proteins are recognised as a high quality source of protein because they are complete proteins (containing all the amino acids including the nine essential amino acids the body can’t produce on its own).

Nutrition and health claims for protein, calcium & magnesium (EU)

Protein A source of protein contributes to; – the growth and maintenance of muscle mass
– the maintenance of normal bones.
Calcium A source of calcium contributes to; – normal muscle function
– normal neurotransmission
– normal energy-yielding metabolism
A source of calcium is needed for; – the maintenance of normal bones and teeth
